Abstract
In recent years, new data sets have been made available, which makes it possible to analyze changes in land cover/use on the national and international scale. One of them is CORINE system, the methodology of which has been developed by the European Environment Agency - EEA, which is responsible for providing environmental data throughout Europe, and put into practice in 39 countries including Turkey. The present study aims to reveal the current situation of land cover/use for the years between 2000 and 2018 in Erzincan, according to the CORINE (Coordination of Information on the Environment) system, to identify changes in land cover/use, and to determine the reasons for these changes. In Erzincan province, land cover/use types were determined according to the CORINE system and 25 different 3rd-degree land cover/use categories were determined in the year 2000, and 27 in the year 2018. The areal calculations of these classes for both periods were made and the land cover/use status was revealed for the years between 2000 and 2018. In conclusion, it was seen that there was a differentiation of land cover/use of 3020.4 km² in Erzincan during this 18-year period. The most common use class of the lands in the province is the areas covered with sparse vegetation. It was determined that the largest differentiation occurred in bare rocks (-847.1 km²) and in areas covered with sparse vegetation (+739,9 km²).
