Abstract
Since human existence, it has given names to the place according to its various qualities. Thanks to Toponym, which is one of the most basic features that people use to classify their surroundings, today it is easier to distinguish one place on earth from another. When the origins of place names in Anatolia are examined; In addition to the cultural aspects of the people who have lived and lived in the region from the past to the present, many signs are emerging from the geographical structure of the site to its vegetation and natural resources. In this study, the rural settlements in Besni District were classified as Toponym. In this classification, human and physical geography factors are prioritized. Besni is a district consisting of 67 villages. In this study, most of the rural settlements in question were classified according to various natural and human factors from their sociology to their history and physical geography. As a result of the erosion of the river in the study area, it was observed that settlements such as Dörtyol, Beşyol and Yoldüzü, which are related to transportation, come to the fore in the parts where flat plains are formed. In the more mountainous parts of the study area, it is seen that there are settlement names that refer to the spring part of the streams such as Sugözü, Pınarbaşı, Burunçayır and Akpınar. In addition, rural settlements such as Aşağı, Yukarı Söğütlü and Çamlıca were classified according to the vegetation cover, settlements such as Çorak according to their soil characteristics, settlements such as Çakıhüyük, Kızılhisar, Taşlıyazı, Ören according to their historical and archaeological structure, and village names such as Payamca and Bereketli were classified according to agriculture.
