Examination of Urban Landscape Design in Historical Environments in the Case of Kayseri Mimar Sinan Park

Historical environments are special areas which contact between past and the today. Cities have become ordinary and similar structures group with the rapid urbanization and population growth. Historical environment plays an important role upon identity of cities with its different features. Also due to faulty planning decisions and misapplication, we are losing our historical values every passing day. To achieve sustainability of these areas, it is necessary that historical environments should be conserved and be adapted to existing urban texture. Thereby the aim of protection is not only historical monument but also environment of monuments. In this sense urban design and urban landscape design has become prominent.The scope of this research, within the frame of Kayseri Mimar Sinan Urban Park case, is to highlight the importance of urban landscape design in conservation of historical structures with their surrounding open-green spaces in order to assure cultural continuity and their adaptation with existing urban fabric for transfer to future generations. Within this scope, conservation of historical places, urban landscape design, and concept of open-green areas were touched upon. And according to the findings obtained from field inventor and analysis in the research field the SWOT Analysis and image analysis on the area done and image analysis sheet was prepared. Also existing urban fabric and problems have been determined and presented urban landscape planning and design suggestions to realize harmony of traditional fabric and to maintain the sustainability in the region.
