Abstract
Mefenamic acid (MEF) a non steroid antiinflammatory drug (NSAID), is a member of fenamate group which is used for analgesic, antipyretic and antiinflammatory effects. Besides the use of pain including menstrual pain, it is also used to relieve the symptoms of osteoarthiritis, rheumatoid arthiridis and sports injuries. MEF attract attentions due to the studies on usage of MEF for Alzheimer disease and glioma and it has wide range of use. In this study, the voltammetric behaviour of MEF was investigated on hanging drop mercury electrode by using square wave voltammetry (SWV) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) methods in B-R buffer solutions which were between pH 2.5 and 12.0. Two catodic peaks (-0.472 V and -1.120 V) were observed in SWV and CV measurements. Reduction reaction of MEF was researched by investigating the impact of pH, scan rate and frequency on peak current and peak potential. Density functional theory calculation shave revealed that there action occurs spontaneously.
