  • Abstract
Natural environment and human are two important dynamic concepts that affect each other and are affected by each other. While human behavior causes changes on the natural environment, at the same time, the natural environment limits human behavior on this environment. Although technology and science develop, human behavior on the natural environment is under the control of natural environmental factors. Settlements are one of the most important factors affected by natural environmental factors. Therefore, in this study, it is aimed to evaluate the relationship between the elevations, views and slopes of the settlements forming Eskişehir central districts (Odunpazarı and Tepebaşı) from a geographical point of view. For this purpose, 1/25000 scale digital topography maps are used, and digitization and reclassification processes are applied by using the ArcGIS program. Eskişehir central districts population characteristics of Turkey Statistical Institute (TSI) s are created based on 2019 data. When the relationship between the settlement and the elevation is examined in the central districts of Eskişehir, it is seen that the dense settlements are gathered at the base of the plain. With the increase of the elevation, a decrease occurs in the population due to the sparse of the settlement pattern. When the relation of settlement and population with slope conditions is examined, it is determined that the areas with dense population and settlement in the central districts are areas where the slope value is less than 2%. So that; There are 88 neighborhoods in these areas, which have a share of 43.52%. The dominant aspect is the southern direction with 18.90%. However, when the central districts settlement is examined, the directions of settlement and the most populated areas are northeast with 34 neighborhoods and north with 31 neighborhoods. This shows that most settlements in the central districts have been established in reverse aspect.
