    New trends in tourism geography: A network analysis using bibliometric indicators

  • Abstract
    Tourism, as a constantly changing social phenomenon, is constantly changing as a research phenomenon. This research aims to understand how tourism geography, which examines tourism as a scientific phenomenon, changes the way it handles this phenomenon. The main aim is, in this regard, to examine new concepts in tourism geography by using a quantitative data set in tourism geography in order to present concrete proposals for tourism geogrphy researchers in Turkey. The research answers to the following questions. What are the main and new themes in tourism geography in scientific studies? What concepts stand out in this context? In order to answer these research questions, one of the most important journals for tourism geography, Tourism Geographies Journal was selected. A bibliometric network analysis was carried out by using the data set of 774 works published in the journal. Their titles, keywords and summary sections have been analysied and the results have been evaluated. According to the findings, in addition to tourism studies based on economic geography and physical geography in tourism geography, post-modern status and themes have a prominent presence in western tourism geography research. Therefore, the geography of tourism concepts and themes are used in many different studies in Turkey. Therefore, throughout the study to examine the differences in geography of tourism in Turkey it is expected to contribute to new entrants, especially researchers in the field of research.
