  • Abstract
Inland sand dune activities that set an interesting example regarding wind erosion under the conditions of the Mediterranean climate, appearing on lands where the annual rainfall is about 600 mm, and some erosion and accumulation, again caused by winds, take place on the Akselendi Plain, Manisa of the Aegean Region. Wind erosion and consequent sand dune movement affect mostly around the villages of Beyoba, Sazoba and Akselendi of Akhisar; the villages of Tiyenli, Değnekler and Kayaaltı of Gölmarmara and the village of Kumkuyucak of Saruhanlı. In the research area, maps of wind erodibility groups (WEG) and of potential soil loss by wind erosion have been prepared using geostatistical methods. In order to evaluate the wind erosion, 834 samples were taken from 204 points from different depths starting from 0-2,5 cm and 2,5-5 cm from places where wind sediment accumulated, sand dunes and agricultural area. According to the results of soil analyses, more than half of the surface samples are in the most dangerous group in terms of WEG. Considering the soil loss tolerance figures, 85,7% of the samples which have been analyzed for dry aggregates regarding the soil erodibility (factor I) values is very sensitive to wind erosion.
