Abstract
Sunn pest Eurygaster integriceps is the most important pest of wheat in Turkey and it has distribution in Marmara, Southeastern Anatolia, Eastern Anatolia and Eastern Mediterranean region. In this study, totally 150 pest individuals, 10 males of them from each of 15 provinces (Adıyaman, Ağrı, Bingöl, Bursa, Çanakkale, Diyarbakır, Edirne, Kahramanmaraş, Kırklareli, İçel, Sakarya, Siirt, Sirnak and Tunceli) were collected from the regions. The presence and availability rates of the endosymbiont bacterium Wolbachia were determined by modifying the wsp primers and by sequencing the obtained PCR reactions. The availability rates of Wolbachia infection are found to be on average 85-98% according to the regions. As a result, Wolbachia was found to be common (94.6%) in E. integriceps specimens across the country. This is the first study determining the relationship between Sunn pest and Wolbachia in the world.
