Abstract
Political actors are involved in an intensive communication process by using information media before an election or referendum. In this communication process, political advertisements are conveyed to the public with various forms from media so as to inform about political subjects, affect the attitudes and convince. In order to accomplish these objectives, political advertisements use emotional forms such as subject, image, negative, positive content and fear appeals. This study aims to analyze audial and visual signs in political advertisements. In order to achieve the study, the political advertisement film of Republican People’s Party (CHP) with the name of “No for My Future” in the period of 2017 Constitutional Referendum was analyzed with semiotic analysis. As a result of the study, it was determined that the negative message contents in the film with positive music and symbols which are important for Turkish society were used to persuade the voters.
