THE EFFECTS OF HANDICRAFTS TO TOURISM: GAZIANTEP EXAMPLE

Traditional handicrafts are values that take their essence and value from the past and reflect the feelings and artistic tastes of the society and their cultural richness.Tourism, on the other hand, is an important element in promoting the values of countries living from past to present.Therefore, it is important to promote the study of Gaziantep s traditional handicrafts and to determine the effectiveness of these handicraft products in the tourism industry. Gaziantep Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, Governorship of Gaziantep, Head of Chamber of Craftsmen and Merchants and hand craftsmen were interviewed face to face. In this context, semi-structured questionnaires were used to reach the data. In the study using qualitative research method, empirical analyzes were performed on the obtained data and the study was concluded. As a result of the research, it has been determined that traditional handicrafts are an important factor in the development of tourism in Gaziantep, promotion of the city and spread of tourism activities in all the regions.
