Abstract
The waqfs were institutions that fulfill many tasks in Ottoman economic and social life. It is seen that the founding of waqfs for the spread of waqfs in social life is supported by many sultans. The focal point of foundations that differ in terms of their institutional objectives is to ensure that economic problems are resolved and encourage aid. The most important feature of the waqfs is to undertake the public services that must be fulfilled by state. Waqfs have acted directly in the fulfillment of any infrastructure or public works service. In the first part of this study, the importance of waqfs was emphasized in the Ottoman State. In the second part, founding forms of waqfs and the economic dimension of the waqfs are discussed. In the third part the structure of cash waqfs and their economic effects are explained.
