DETERMINING SECTORS WITH CLUSTERING POTENTIAL: AN APPLICATION ON THE TRA 1 LEVEL 2 REGION

The objective of this research study is to determine the sectors with clustering potential in TRA 1 region and Erzurum, Erzincan and Bayburt cities taking part in this region. In this context, for determining the sectors with clustering potential a three star analyses was made depending on the data about the figure of employment and the number of shops in 2016, which were provided from the Social Security Institution (SSI) and classified according to NACE Rev.2.It is evaluated that this research study will significantly contribute to create an awareness about the clustering issue and possible future studies about clustering in the TRA 1 region and its cities, where there have been no clusters in any sector till now. According to the results of the research study, the sectors with clustering potential were determined to be particularly Agriculture, Husbandry, Mining, and Forestry being in the first place, Food production, Beverage production, Mining sector, Construction sector, Health sector and Winter tourism.
