The study focuses on the adventure of typewriter and typist education in terms of education system and the business life throughout the Republican era, starting with the records and books in the last period of Ottoman and centering the book of M. Hamid. The emphasis of this study is the book titled “Daktilografi” (Typewriting), published in 1928 by M. Hamid who was teacher of typewriting at the School of Commerce. In the book, it’s suggested that typewriter education is required for record keeping and commercial correspondences required in the fields of commerce and office management. The book provides theoretical, practical and technical information to learn how to use the typewriter on their own. In addition, it is emphasized that typewriter education was necessary for working women at that time.
