A NEW DIMENSION TO SUSTAINABILE DEVELOPMENT APPROACH: ETHICS

This study aims to review the approach of sustainable development that proposes economic growth, ecological balance, and social development models and its basic principles within the framework of ethical values. In this context, the study interrogates established the notion of sustainable development with a critical approach. The contemporary development model adopted by most countries has posed a threat to the present and future of living and non-living beings as well as humankind. Contrary to expectations, it is difficult to make decisions and implement sustainable policies and strategies that developed due to ecological concerns in most countries. As the main reason for such difficulty, it is asserted that countries attribute different meanings to this approach due to the uncertainties contained in the concept. In addition to evaluating this approach within the framework of ethical principles, explaining the universal principles such as “rights, justice and precaution” will guide the decision-making and implementation of sustainable policies and strategies, which makes this approach more widespread.
