Abstract
The aim of this research is to determine the reasons for the inadequate seating of the primary school first-grade students and to examine their causes. The research was conducted in October 2016. Research is the case study of qualitative research methods. Participants of the study consist of 176 first grade students who study in a primary school in the province of Tepebaşı in Eskişehir and 8 primary school teachers who teach these students. Participant first graders were measured for height. In the survey, data were collected with semi-structured interview form and observation. The negotiations with the semi-structured interview form were recorded with the voice recorder. During the observations, the researcher was sitting at the back of the classroom and observed the participants in the participant observer role. Observations made by the researcher were recorded on the observation form. During the observations, the students were shown the wrong way of sitting with the camera. In the analysis of the data, thematic analysis was used. Bending forward as a form of incorrect seating; putting his feet under the rump, standing up, gathering his legs in front of the chair. As a result of the research, it is explained by thematically that the students are wrongly sitting. The reasons for the incorrect seating are as high as the tables and chairs for the students; chair seating deep is too high; kindergarten and home-acquired misconceptions. Suggestions based on research presentations were made.
