    OPINIONS OF THE SPECIAL EDUCATION SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS REGARDING THE SPECIAL EDUCATION LEGISLATION

  • Abstract
    The present study was conducted to illustrate the views of the special education school administrators on special education legislation. The data collection was conducted with semi-structured interview technique, a qualitative research method. The study participants included the administrators working at schools that provide special education services. Furthermore, when determining participants in the study, administrators from different institutions such as those providing education for children with intellectual, hearing and visual disabilities and gifted children are selected to identify different perspectives. Ten special education school administrators were included in the present study. The questions on the interview form, which was the data collection instrument, were designed in accordance with the study objectives. Five interview questions aimed to determine the comprehensibility of the language, the content and the capability to meet the needs of the special education legislation, the problems experienced in practice, and further recommendations. One interview was conducted face to face; the others were conducted over the phone since the participants lived in different cities. The data obtained in the present study were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The findings demonstrated that the language and comprehensibility, content and the capability to fulfill the needs of the legislation were inadequate and it was insufficient in practice.
