Abstract
Based on the relationship between language and music and since the music is a tool of education, the purpose of this study is to put forth whether it is possible to get more effectively the achievements set for the first reading with education through music in each stage of forming sound, syllable, word, phrase, text in first reading education or not, and whether this method is effective in terms of musical achievements or not. In this study, the experimental research method of final test model with test and control group. The scope of the study consists of the first semester of first grade students and teachers of the primary schools in Elmadağ District in Ankara. Barut Primary School is chosen from the Primary schools in Elmadağ District in Ankara Province and the first grade students and teachers in the academic year 2011-2012 comprise the research sample. Percentage frequency and nonparametric tests are used to analyse the data. Music-assisted first reading education is one of the stages of the first reading education, and it is effective in terms of the achievement of “silent letter/sound recognition” and “forming syllable . This method is ineffective in terms of the achievements of to start to talk taking breath, voice letter/sound recognition, forming word, forming phrase. Although the method is not effective enough for the stated four achievements, it can be said that this method is a method that can be active in first reading.
