Abstract
This study was carried out in order to investigate the impact of context-based teaching method supported by 5E model in teaching primary school 4th grade students the Pure Substance and Mixture topic on the students conceptual perceptions and their attitude towards science. In this study, mixed research pattern was used. The research was completed on a total number of 43 students in 10 weeks in 4th grade of a state school located in Gaziantep in the 2016-2017 academic year. In the process of data collection, Attitude Scale Towards Science and Alternative Measurement Tools were used and interviews were held with 10 students in the experiment group after the practices were completed. Percentage, frequency and t-test statistical techniques were used in the analysis of quantitative data, and content analysis technique was used in the analysis of qualitative data. This study revealed that the context-based teaching method supported by the 5E learning model is effective in improving the students positive attitudes towards science and improving their conceptual perception.
