  • Abstract
The aim of the research is to develop an achievement test for the Change of Matter unit of the fifth-grade science course. For this purpose, firstly the gains were determined, and an item pool consisting of 55 questions suitable for these gains was prepared. The number of questions has been reduced to 30 by applying for expert opinions in science education. The 30-question test was applied to 230 fifth-year students in the 2014-2015 academic year. The validity and reliability of the achievement test have been examined. A statement table is prepared for the validity of the achievement test. By analyzing the items according to the answers given by the students to the questions in the test, the indivisibility and difficulty indices of each item are calculated separately. Independent groups t-test results were also examined among item indifference and difficulty indices of the questions. As a result of the item analysis, 2 items were removed from the test and the Change of Matter unit of 28 questions was tested for achievement. The mean strength of the test was 0.501 and the mean discrimination was 0.488. In the reliability analysis of the achievement test, Kuder Richardson-20 technique was used. The calculated reliability coefficient (r) was determined as 0.714. Suggestions were made in the direction of the findings obtained from the research.
