Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the predictive effect of emotional regulation skills on the psychological help needs of university first year students. The study was carried out on 423 first year students in the Faculty of Education of Atatürk University. Of the participants, 306 were female and 117 were male. Emotion Regulation Scale and Psychological Aid Needy Determination Scale were used as the measurement tool in the research. Data were analyzed with SPSS 22 program. Multiple regression analysis was used in the evaluation of the research data. As a result of the research, it was determined that the psychological help needs of the university students were in the negative and moderate relation with the rearrangement of the subscales of the emotion regulation scale. It was determined that psychological help needs of university students were positively and lowly related to the suppression sub-dimension of emotion regulation scale subscales. As a result of the research, it was found that re-regulation of feelings negatively predicted the need for psychological help. It was also found that suppressing emotions negatively predicted the need for psychological help.
