  • Abstract
The study aims to determine teachers’ tendency of democratic behavior in constituting a democratic educational setting. The study group of the research consists of 42 middle school teachers working in a central district, who planned to attend in-service training of democracy within the context of a project in 2015-2016 academic year. Survey model has been used in the study. A 24-item survey developed by Genç (2006) has been used as a data collecting tool. The survey is a measurement tool of 3 point Likert type. Data have been analyzed through frequency and percentage, and they have been tabulated and interpreted. Findings have shown that the awareness of teachers is high about the fact that democracy can be taught by being adopted, experienced and by setting a model. Meanwhile, it has revealed that teachers regard themselves as individuals with high-level democratic attitude and values. Unlike this ratio, other results have indicated that teachers have low ratio of using active teaching methods, techniques and materials in the class and of cooperating with out-of-class institutions and organizations and non- governmental organizations. Findings were discussed in the light of the relevant literature. At the end, some recommendations were made based on the findings of the research.
