Abstract
The aim of the study is to determine and compare the attitudes of the classroom teachers in teaching life sciences and to compare these attitudes with their practices.The descriptive pattern of the mixed method was included in the quantitative part of the study, 167 classroom teachers, and eight classroom teachers in qualitative part.The data in the quantitative section of the study were collected with a semi-structured interview tool of “Life Science Teaching attitude scale”, and qualitative data in the qualitative section were collected with a semi-structured interview tool. Quantitative data were analyzed using the SPSS 23.0 program. Determining general attitude levels of classroom teachers, average, standard deviation, frequency values were calculated and independent groups t-test was performed for the significance of gender on the attitude. The data obtained from semi-structured interviews were analyzed by continuous comparative analysis. According to the results of the analysis, it was found that the attitudes of teachers in the teaching of life sciences were high, and although there was no significant difference in the level of love and value in the lower dimensions of the attitude compared to the gender, the importance dimension was different in favor of women. In addition, the class teachers stated that Life Science was important, even though it was not one of the most important lessons, and that they were preparing materials for this lesson. Classroom teachers who stated that they use drama method the most in their class, stated that they evaluated their students in traditional methods, what was learned in the lesson was reflected in children s lives.
