  • Abstract
    Reading as an effort of any individual to interpret and produce new meanings in the written text is an important language skill that includes various memory skills (Firdevs, 2014). According to Akyol (2013), a reading activity requires an exercise to establish some meanings that writer and reader are continually interacting. First of all, the reading ability, which includes achievements related to meaning and concept, begins to be acquired by students from primary school. The pre-reading activity comprises strategy knowledge on various activities that need to be done before reading. This study aims to determine the pre-reading strategies in the Turkish Language and Literature Program and to explore the application possibilities of these strategies in the 10th grade textbook of Turkish Language and Literature. In the study, the researchers collected the data by reviewing The Turkish Language and Literature Lesson Course and the Course Book for the 10th grades (MEB, 2018). As a result of the examination, the researchers intend to highlight that if the textbooks of Turkish Language and Literature are designed according to reading acquisition requirements, students can use their pre-reading strategies more efficiently and more effectively.
