Abstract
The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of vocational development modular curriculum for 9th grade in vocational and technical training Anatolian high schools. The study which was conducted in 2018-2019 education term is a phenomenology study from qualitative research methods. Participant oriented approach was used to evaluate the modular curriculum. Within the context of the study, 12 participants’ views were consulted. The participant were 4 vocational teachers, 6 students, 1 administrator graduated from vocational school and 1 counsellor teachers responsible for 9 grade students, who are internal stakeholders of Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School. Data was collected via 5 different semi-structured interview forms which were developed by the researchers and were analyzed via content analysis. Based on the findings obtained, teachers and students uttered 157 discourses while evaluating the effectiveness of vocational development modular curriculum. These utterances were assessed separately for participants and expressed under 2 themes which are “evaluation of the curriculum” and “overall evaluation of the lesson”. These themes were split up 5 groups which are “evaluation of the objectives”, “evaluation of the content”, “evaluation of the application process”, “evaluation of the measurement and evaluation activities” and “overall evaluation of the lesson”. Teachers expressed their views with 24 codes while students expressed theirs with 18 codes for the effectiveness of curriculum in this study. Administrator’ and guidance counselor’ views were presented directly under the same category. This study is expected to contribute to the literature of curriculum and instruction.
