Abstract
Evaluation of reading skills is highly important for the determination of students needs in reading process, planning of education program with regard to fulfilling these needs and determination of the strategies to be used. This research, which aims to evaluate reading skills of mainstreamed hearing impaired students with Informal Reading Inventory (IRI), was figured as a descriptive model. Retelling and answering the text related questions skills of 13 mainstreamed hearing impaired students based in Eskisehir province has been evaluated via the stories in IRI. The data was analyzed with descriptive analysis method. The research results show that mainstreamed hearing impaired students can give information about most of the characters and main events in the text, talk about the main idea of the text but experience difficulties in expressing details of some events. Regarding the answers given to the questions related to the text, it is concluded that they are able to use some question and answer strategies and give answers using the clues from the questions but they experience difficulties in answering some questions.
