Abstract
This research aims to determine the democratic attitudes and tolerance levels of university students. For this reason, firstly, by doing an overall search of the literature, the conceptual and theoretical framework of the study has been formed. Based on the conceptual and theoretical framework, it was tried to determine to what extent university students had democratic attitude and tolerance levels. In the field research section, scale application was applied to 694 students studying in different faculties and departments in a city of Central Black Sea Region in 2016-2017. As data collection tools, ‘Democratic Attitude Scale’ adapted by Gözütok (1995) and ‘Tolerance Scale’ developed by Ersanlı (2014) and personal information form were used. The data obtained through the scale were analyzed and tabulated using SPSS. As a result, it was examined whether there is a difference on the students’ democratic attitudes and tolerance levels depending on their gender, home condition, faculty grade and department they are studying, their monthly income and the place they spend their lives. When we look at the findings of the research, it was concluded that females in the third and fourth grades of education faculties had more democratic attitudes. Upon examining the tolerance levels, it was concluded that senior males in the faculty of economics and administrative sciences had higher levels. The democratic attitudes and tolerance levels of the university students, which consist the main objective of this study, vary according to the effects of many economic and social variables.
