  • Abstract
Computational thinking is defined as a technology-based approach for problem-solving. It is considered a method of understanding human behaviors by drawing attention to the basic concepts such as problem solving, designing systems and main concepts related to informatics technologies. Computational thinking is not only a basic skill for all professionals on informatics, but also basic skills used by everyone (like reading, writing and arithmetic) in the near future. The purpose of this study is to examine the computational thinking skills of students who are studying in the field of information technologies in vocational high schools by the type of program. This study is based on the causal-comparison research method. The study group consist of 107 students. Their computational thinking skills were collected by using “Computational Thinking Skills Scale” (α = 0.87). Data were analyzed by using multivariate analysis of variance, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, frequency and percentage analysis. The results of the analysis showed that there was no statistically significant difference between the students studying in the anatolian vocational program and those studying in the anatolian technical program according to their computer thinking skills; [F(5, 101) = ,746, p = ,60; Wilks’ Lambda = ,96]. However, when the average scores were examined, it was observed that the students of the anatolian technical program have a higher score in terms of both total scores and scores on sub-skills than the students in the anatolian vocational program (68-100).
