Abstract :
A review is present of work done to date on resistive, superconducting, and hybrid magnet designs. Then it is argued that, with current materials and technology, DC magnetic fields of 25 T can be generated by superconducting magnets and fields up to 40 T can be generated by hybrid magnet designs. A table summarizing major high-magnetic-field facilities and their technical possibilities is included.
