Abstract :
An eddy-current sensor for DC and low-frequency magnetic fields is treated. It is based on a direct application of eddy-current effects in nonlinear ferromagnetic conductors, in the presence of several alternating magnetic fields of different frequencies (multifield eddy-current effects). The one-dimensional multifield eddy-current effect is examined to elucidate the principle of operation of the sensor. The transduction gain of the sensor is evaluated, using a simplified model of its operation. Experimental results confirm the applicability of the model and demonstrate a sensitivity of 0.1 nT
