Abstract :
The purpose of this paper is to present a 2-dimensional simulation of the read and write processes in perpendicular magnetic recording, which takes into account the strong anisotropy and hysteresis characteristics of the ferromagnetic materials involved in the recording system. The algorithm, which has been implemented in the electromagnetic analysis package FLUX developed by ENSIEG, is based on finite element method and successive minimizations of the energy and the co-energy of the recording system head/medium. Results in terms of induction lines, magnetization distributions and computed readback signals are presented and analyzed.
