Insulation Reliability - 5 [Dakin´s Corner]

The topic of electrical conduction in electrical insulation was introduced in the previous column of this series. There, the magnitude of conduction was discussed in relation to dielectric heating and attenuation of higher frequency communication signals. In this column the effect of conduction will be discussed in relation to voltage stress distribution and possibly consequent dielectric breakdown initiation by exceeding the breakdown stress of one of the series components.
