Abstract :
Powder oxides, as sintering additives, have been found to increase the coercivity of PrCo5containing Sm-Co sintering aid. These additives inhibit grain growth of the 2-7 phase and produce lanthanide oxides during the sintering. Pr0.8Sm0.2Co5magnets containing 0.4-1 weight percent Cr2O3display magnetic properties similar to SmCo5Possible hardening mechanisms consistent with the observed effects are discussed.
