  • Abstract
    Second-harmonic generation (SHG) from a merocyanine dye Langmuir-Blodgett monolayer is reported. Values for the second-order molecular polarisability ß and its average orientation within the layer are deduced. Extinction of the SHG is observed for symmetrical bilayers. Protonation of a dye monolayer is seen to suppress SHG.
