Abstract :
Packet-switching and very-small-aperture-terminal (VSAT) technologies are combined to produce a networking concept that minimizes the cost of the overall network without compromising its performance. There are a number of data communications applications where VSAT is the most cost-effective technology for networking; however, it may not meet the response time requirement for a specific application. Also, some applications require alternate routing or multiple host locations. For these applications, a combination of VSAT and X.25 packet-switched nodes (PSNs) is shown to be a reliable and cost effective solution.<>
