Abstract
Analysis of recorded radar data collected from a mixed field of Arctic ice shows that the Ka-band returns, more so than other frequencies, can be used to delineate targets that pose a threat or impediment to navigation. In particular, it is shown that the Ka-band returns highlight multiyear ice-floes, ice-bergs and first-year ice pressure ridges.
