Abstract
The American Gear Manufacturers Association has issued a new product standard on the rating of mill and kiln gears. The base document for the new standard is also new and can lead to some confusion. In this article, the author hopes to clear up the difference in rating between the old and new girth gear standards. He also addresses maintenance of girth gears, including lubrication, the key to ensuring a long life
