Abstract :
The paper proposes an adaptive reception (AR) scheme for S-DMB systems. Layered streams are generated by adopting scalable video coding (SVC) technique to transmit video data hierarchically over broadcasting channel(s). Depending on the terminal´s type, the minimum amount of data frames are adoptively received by employing a frame selection control at the receiver. We quantitatively investigate the benefits in terms of power consumption and available viewing time with a case of S-DMB phones.
