Abstract
Highly Bi-substituted yttrium iron garnet films grown epitaxially on SmGG substrates are investigated for compositions of (BiY)3 Fe5 O12 , (BiY)3 - (FeAl)5 O12 and (BiGdY)3 (FeAl)5 O12 . A specific rotation of 7670 deg/cm and an optical absorption of 180 cm-1at 0.8 μm are obtained for a (BiGdY)3 (FeAl)5 O12 film. These values give the figure of merit 10 deg/dB. Growth of thick films, saturation fields of the films and the optical reflection are investigated.
