Abstract
The authors propose a novel optical multiple-access network with cascaded optical intensity modulators using subcarrier multiplexing (SCM). This network is free from beat noise because each node shares signal light from one transmitter laser diode (LD) with the other nodes. The properties involved in intermodulation distortion due to cascade connection of the optical modulators were analyzed, and the applicability of this network to a video monitoring system was investigated. Results indicate that a wide-area monitoring system with 260-km transmission distance and 52 video terminals is possible with the proposed network.<>
