Abstract :
Small time-division-multiplexed (TDM) and space-division-multiplexed (SDM) telephone systems are analysed to identify the major components which introduce cost differences between them. Criteria are established to determine the limits of economic viability for SDM in fully connected and in limited traffic systems.
