Abstract
Computational studies have been made of the systematics of the magnetic filtration of gas/ particle mixtures. These have revealed a reasonably sharp threshold value of the Stokes number for the onset of inertial effects. This, in turn, establishes a limiting gas flow velocity above which the exclusive dependence of the capture radius on the dimensionless parameter (Vm /Vo ) is lost. The isodynamic characteristics of particle capture predicted theoretically for certain flow conditions are confirmed by a simple filtration experiment in high vacuum.
