Abstract :
A novel method for 3-D open boundary field computation, the database method, is introduced. It is developed from the substructure-frontal method. In the database method, all assembling and eliminating procedures of the open field region are done in advance, and the results are stored on disc as a database for further computations of a wide range of problems different in scale, material properties, structure, etc. Each time a computation is done, therefore, one can start from the database instead of the `infinitely far´ boundary, and a maximum saving in computer resources results. With the new method, the computation region can be reduced to the minimum and large 3-D problems can be solved on a minicomputer or even a microcomputer
