Abstract :
The authors attempt to clarify the effects of Cr content on the magnetic properties of CoCr sputtered films. Also studied are microstructural differences in the early stage of film formation (less than 500 Å) with varying Cr content and sputtering conditions. Co 73Cr27 films less than 500-Å thick showed good c-axis alignments, and these were used as a seed layer for CoCr/permalloy double layers to suppress the transition layer in the recording layers. The c-axis alignment effects and read/write characteristics of the film are reported. Co85Cr15/permalloy/Co73Cr27 and Co85Cr15/Co73Cr27/permalloy double layers show a very high potential for higher density recording
