Abstract :
A new 3 inch high recording density floppy disk and a floppy disk drive have been developed. It has a 1 MByte capacity per surface then it has 2 MByte per disk. This system is realized by means of high coercive force Co-Fe2O3media and a high efficience head. Linear recording density at innermost track is 17.9 KBPI and track density is 200 TPI, and areal recording density 3.6×106bits per inchis achieved. This is about four times higher than that of conventional 5.25 inch floppy disk ( 1.6 MByte capacity model ). In this paper, recording and peak shift characteristics of the newly developed system is discussed.
