  • Abstract
The problem considered here is the evaluation of current distribution in a long conductor with an arbitrary cross section carrying a known total current. The theoretical solution is obtained by separation of variables. Circular-cylindrical coordinates are employed which facilitate the description of the behaviour of the field quantities at infinity. Applying the point-matching technique reduces the problem to the solution of a system of linear equations. The solution of these equations determines the current distribution and the conductor impedance. Furthermore, a boundary-matching method is introduced that handles cross sections with relatively high variation of curvature, thus current density.
