Abstract
A large part of the nonlinear distortion introduced in the recording process can be modelled as a shift in the effective position of the recorded transitions, it is shown that such transition shifts can explain the distinctive distortion evident in Class IV partial-response eye-patterns reproduced from a magnetic recording channel.
