Abstract :
A high current, high efficiency inductor for a 10 MJ pulsed power supply for powering experimental electromagnetic launcher systems has been designed and is in fabrication. This inductor employs liquid nitrogen cooled copper windings which are compensated for transient effects and high strength aluminum structure to react magnetic forces. A toroidal geometry minimizes external fields, and is capable of being connected in either a 20 µH or 5 µH configuration with peak currents of 1 and 2 MA, respectively. The details of the concept selection and design are presented.
