Abstract :
We present a simple model for the statistics of the measured IF frequency in coherent optical receivers, for the case of major interest where the IF bandwidth is large compared with the linewidths of the signal and local oscillator lasers. We show that the PDF for the measured IF frequency is close to Gaussian in this case, with variance depending on both laser and filter characteristics.
