Abstract :
The mode partition noise introduced into high data rate optical transmission systems when a multi-longitudinal mode semiconductor laser diode is optically filtered by a typical grating-based WDM demultiplexer is considered. Low power modes are found to make a significant contribution to this noise and are included in the model presented.
