Abstract
The authors discuss the use of the finite-element technique in the end-region design of the stator of a 15 MW two-pole 98.3 Hz 5900 rpm synchronous motor for a boiler-fed pump in a coal-fired power station. They describe design methods used to calculate fundamental-frequency and harmonic-frequency losses in the stationary components of the end region, and explain the different boundary conditions and permeabilities needed to solve the problem for each situation
